Things to Do

1. Explore the historical Melawati Hill

Melawati Hill, or Bukit Melawati, is a historical hill in the town centre that is home to several unique landmarks, including the Altingsburg Lighthouse, the Royal Mausoleum, and the Poisoned Well. This hill, built in the 18th century, was once a point of defence against enemy troops, but it is now a popular tourist destination and home to cheeky silvered leaf monkeys. The admission is free, so visitors can come whenever they want to enjoy the fresh air from the top of the hill.

2. Visit the Sri Shakti Dhevasthanam Temple

This magnificent Hindu temple, located on the outskirts of Kuala Selangor, is surrounded by massive, sculpted sandstone walls and an impressive 5-tiered gopuram, with its highlight binge the 51 beautiful statues of the goddess Shakti along their hallway inside. In fact, the temple is the only one in the world with manifestations of all 51 Shaktis.

3. Nature Walk through the Kuala Selangor Nature Park

The park is home to over 150 bird species, 57 of which are migratory; we recommend visiting between September and April, when the park will be visited by these birds migrating from countries such as Russia. The lush green land is also home to a variety of other animals, including otters, fiddler crabs, and monkeys, which you can see while you’re here.

4. Take Pictures at Sasaran Beach Sky Mirror

The Sasaran Beach Sky Mirror, named after its unique mirror-like reflection of the sky, is a hidden gem in Kuala Selangor. The Sky Mirror is actually a seabed that appears above water during low tide, exposing an expansive sand flat that’s approximately the size of a hundred football fields. It appears only a few days each month and for a few hours each day.
